About
I took a leap of faith and came from India to the US in 2011. After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University, I worked as a front-end software developer for five years where I also gained experience in technical writing and software documentation.
In 2019, I once again took a leap of faith and moved to San Diego. I graduated from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, after which I have worked as a GIS analyst and helped map and visualize geospatial data for an MPA management plan in Bermuda, a UI/UX researcher to explore new avenues for digital exhibits in aquariums, and as a freelance science communicator to help educate and spread awareness for various conservation efforts!
Over the years, my diverse experience has made me realize that what I value the most in my roles is being a bridge between people — whether it is to act as a liason between technical and non-technical teams, help communicate crucial technical knowledge to spread awareness, or to organize at any level.
I aspire to leverage my multidisciplinary background to take the next step in my career!
Education Officer and Outreach Coordinator at ReefWatch Marine Conservation - designing, developing and promoting the Eco-Search program for ocean education and awareness among local youth, coordinating collaboration between the city education authorities, the Indian Coast Guard, and SCUBA dive school representatives, mobilizing community efforts and handling logistics for various local events such as beach clean-ups.
Team Lead at National Service Scheme - organizing donation drives, awareness programs, and education initiatives in rural communities, conducting seminars and workshops to empower local youth and women from underprivileged backgrounds, collaborating with the local governing bodies to implement targeted campaign efforts for maximum impact.
GIS Consultant at the Waitt Institute for the Bermuda Ocean Prosperity Programme - leading the efforts to prepare the maps for Bermuda’s marine protected areas, providing GIS technical support and expertise to the Custodian of Historic Wrecks at the Bermuda Zoological Survey.
Project Lead for the Maldives Whale Shark Research Programme - designing and developing tools for mapping and visualizing field data for better management of the South Ari MPA.
Designed and developed a web application to map and visualize field data to aid policy recommendations for better management of tourist boats and protection of whales sharks in the South Ari MPA in Maldives.
Conducted visitor surveys and made design recommendations to explore the possibility of introducing a digital exhibit at the Birch Aquarium.
Developed android applications, web applications and desktop applications.
Analysed data sets using R, MATLAB, OpenCV, and other tools.
